Dhaka, 7 Dec, Abnews: A group of foreign physicians comprising burn and plastic surgeons and neurologists called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official Ganabhaban residence here yesterday afternoon.
"The doctors who came from Germany, the Netherlands and Hungary are now rendering voluntary services to the patients at the burn and plastic surgery unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH)," PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told reporters after the meeting.
The press secretary said the physicians informed the premier that they have so far provided treatment for 94 patients at the DMCH Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit.
The doctors, he said, performed operations on 38 of those patients.
A neurologist told the premier that he had treated twin babies conjoined in head. A group of doctors will arrive from Hungary at the end of February or the beginning of March next year and conduct operation of the twin babies to separate them, he said.
The prime minister extended her sincere thanks to the foreign physicians for rendering voluntary services to a significant number of patients at the DMCH Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit.
Sheikh Hasina elaborated her government's strides for the health sector development.
Pointing out the establishment of Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialized Hospital at Kashimpur in Gazipur, the prime minister said the hospital is completely service-oriented and it renders free services to 30 percent poor patients.
The Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialized Hospital started its journey on November 18, 2013 under the joint initiative of KPG of Malaysia and Bangabandhu Memorial Trust.
Health Minister Mohammad Nasim, National Coordinator of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery Dr Samanta Lal sen as well as doctors of the DMCH Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit and Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialized Hospital were present on the occasion. – BSS
