Dhaka, 28 August, Abnews: Three people, including two children, went missing as a trawler capsized in the Jamuna River at Char Alokdia in Shivalaya upazila on Tuesday morning.
Two of the deceased were identified as Nur Box, 45, of Ataikula and Megha, 7, of Sujanagar upazilas in Pabna district.
The trawler with 100 passengers coming from Kajirhat in Pabna sank in the morning when a cement-laden cargo vessel coming from the opposite direction hit it while heading towards Aricha Ghat, said Habibullah Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Shivalaya Police Station.
All but three missing passengers managed to swim ashore, he said. Twelve passengers of the trawler suffered injuries in the incident and they were taken to Utholi Health Complex.
On information, a firefighting unit from Paturia Ghat and a team of divers from the capital went to the spot and conducted the rescue operation, he added.
Police also arrested two people and seized the cargo vessel in this connection.
However, the trawler could not be salvaged till filing of this report around 4 pm due to strong current.
